Established in 1962, the Castaic Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility (CVEF) serves as the final checkpoint for commercial drivers before they travel over the Grapevine and exit Los Angeles County. Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, our dedicated team of California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers, sergeants, and Commercial Vehicle Inspection Specialists (CVIS) work to uphold the highest standards of safety, service, and security for both the commercial transportation industry and the motoring public.
Strategically located on northbound Interstate 5, between Magic Mountain Parkway and State Route 126, the Castaic CVEF screens approximately 2.3 million commercial motor vehicles annually. Our officers and CVIS personnel conduct thorough safety inspections, verifying driver qualifications, hours of service, vehicle registration, height, weight, cargo securement, and mechanical integrity to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Our top priority is safeguarding the motoring public while promoting driver education and compliance within the commercial industry.
As a key point of contact for both the public and the trucking industry, the Castaic CVEF receives thousands of inquiries each year regarding traffic laws, road conditions, weather updates, and commercial vehicle regulations along the I-5 corridor in northern Los Angeles County.
Collaborative Efforts & Enforcement Initiatives:
The Castaic CVEF works closely with state, federal, and industry partners, including:
-
- Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)
- Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA)
- California Trucking Association (CTA)
- Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT)
Our officers participate in key enforcement initiatives, such as:
-
- Operation Safe Driver
- Operation Airbrake
- International Roadcheck
- Human Trafficking Prevention
In addition, the Castaic CVEF supports local CHP Area offices by providing commercial enforcement services, education, and training at both the regional and state levels. The primary mission of CHP’s Commercial Enforcement Program is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of commercial vehicles on California’s highways by reducing crashes and incidents related to mechanical defects, driver qualifications, and excessive driving hours.
For questions regarding commercial vehicles or driver regulations, please contact our office. We appreciate your commitment to defensive and safe driving, as it plays a crucial role in making California’s highways safer for everyone. Thank you for visiting our website.
