In 1923, the Willows Area received its first traffic officer for the county.  For a few years following, this officer was the only patrol officer in the area while wearing badge #1.  In 1927, Willows received their second officer and two years later, in 1929, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was established.  At that time, the first officer was reassigned badge #48.

Today, the CHP Willows Area office has grown to 20 officers, three sergeants, and a lieutenant commander, who are responsible for patrolling all the freeways, state routes, roadways, and unincorporated areas within Glenn County.  Geographically, Glenn County is located about halfway between Sacramento and Redding in Northern California covering 1,327 square miles (including 12.4 square miles of water) with a population of approximately 26,950.  We are primarily an agricultural community with mountains on the west, the Interstate 5 corridor taking you through 29 miles of rich farmland, 119 miles of various State Routes, approximately 830 miles of county-maintained roads, and the Sacramento River to the east side of the county.  Over the years, Glenn County continues to grow with people and businesses relocating to Northern California.
