The Yreka Area is primarily located in Northern Siskiyou County which is the northernmost part of the state of California. The population of the county is approximately 45,000 and it is geographically the fifth largest county in California. Siskiyou County is located in the Shasta Cascade region along the Oregon border which is high desert and mountainous terrain. Because of its outdoor recreation opportunities and Gold Rush era history, it is an important tourist destination within the state. There are two major thoroughfares that transverse the Area, I-5 and US 97. In addition, the Area patrols SR-3, SR-96, SR-139, SR-161, SR-263, SR-265, and hundreds of miles of unincorporated county roadways. The Area includes the main office which has a communications center. Furthermore, resident post officers patrol the remote communities of Happy Camp, Tulelake, and Dorris.

The Yreka Area is committed to serve both citizens and those traveling through the state of California. Our community outreach efforts are aimed to keep you and your loved ones safe. We would be honored to attend community based events or meetings to provide an overview of the CHP and how we can be partners in providing safety, service, and security to the region.

COMMANDER'S MESSAGE

On behalf of the dedicated employees California Highway Patrol (CHP) Yreka Area, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our Web page. Within this site, you will find helpful information about our Area, its structure, its services, and the personnel that serve your local communities.
The Yreka Area has a diverse workforce comprised of 35 uniform and 19 civilian employees.  Every member is dedicated and responsible for providing the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security to the public, private sector, and visitors to the area. CHP personnel are paramount assets and through them we strive for excellence, professionalism, and partnerships within our community, government entities, and allied agencies. We are constantly developing and participating in proactive community-based strategies in order to promote safe, vital, and healthy communities.  Public Trust is paramount to the relationship we have with the community and our continued dedication to continue the excellent relationship between the CHP and the public. To demonstrate that we deserve your trust, we voluntarily submitted to an external, objective evaluation of departmental operations by the Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Our Department, Academy, and Communications Centers are proud to be internationally accredited through the CALEA Accreditation Program.
Whether you are traveling on the roadways we patrol or visiting the local Department of Motor Vehicles, CHP officers are on patrol 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
