Opened in 2000, the Cottonwood Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility (CCVEF), is located on Northbound Interstate 5 in the rolling grass and oak tree covered hills of Tehama County. An additional facility located on Southbound Interstate 5 was constructed and opened in 2025. These two facilities are located approximately two hours north of Sacramento. With only two percent of California’s population, the economy in Northern Division is based on logging, timber products, agriculture, ranching as well as recreational and outdoor activities. CCVEF ensures products and goods are transported safely. This is done by inspecting commercial vehicles and drivers for compliance with the North American Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Standards and state laws. CCVEF employees are trained in detecting driving under the influence, human trafficking, and stolen vehicles. Through a 24/7 constant screening of commercial drivers and vehicles, our officers, and Commercial Vehicle Inspection Specialists (CVIS) remain vigilant for these crimes. CCVEF places a high emphasis on developing and training our employees, many of whom have received additional training such as hazardous materials and cargo tank inspections. We strive to educate as well, through the Commercial Industry Education Program (CIEP), and promote safe practices with our industry partners. The employees of CCVEF take pride in their work and strive every day to uphold the Mission of the California Highway Patrol by doing their part to contribute to a safer California.
