Overview
Located along the scenic coast of Southern California, the Ventura Area of the California Highway Patrol is responsible for patrolling a diverse and expansive region that includes approximately 175 miles of freeway, including state routes and 542 miles of unincorporated roadways within its 1,843 square mile territory. Ventura County is known for its stunning coastline, rolling hills, and mountainous terrain, all of which contribute to the unique challenges and responsibilities of the CHP Ventura Area.
The Ventura Area encompasses a variety of communities, including the city of Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Santa Paula, Ojai and surrounding unincorporated areas. The region is home to some of California’s most popular destinations, including the Channel Islands National Park, Ventura Harbor, and the historic downtown Ventura district. The Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1) runs through the area, offering breathtaking views and a major thoroughfare for both locals and visitors. Additionally, U.S. Route 101 serves as a critical corridor for commuters and commercial traffic traveling between Northern and Southern California.
As part of its commitment to public safety, the Ventura Area offers several educational and community-based programs aimed at reducing traffic collisions and promoting responsible driving. The Start Smart program provides valuable instruction for teen drivers and their parents, emphasizing the importance of safe driving habits from an early age. Additionally, the Area provides child passenger safety seat services, ensuring that families understand how to properly install and use car seats to protect their youngest passengers.
The Ventura Area also conducts VIN/Salvage Inspections to assist vehicle owners with proper documentation and compliance.
For those interested in giving back to their community and supporting law enforcement, the Ventura Area offers a Senior Volunteer Program, providing mature individuals the opportunity to assist officers with various duties. Additionally, young men and women exploring a future career in law enforcement can participate in the Explorer Program, gaining hands-on experience and mentorship from CHP officers.
The Ventura Area utilizes the Ventura County Superior Court for all traffic-related legal proceedings. For any court-related inquiries, please contact the Ventura County Superior Court system at (805) 289-8545.
Our Area Office is open from Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is available to assist with vehicle impounds, traffic safety inquiries, and community education programs.
Through a combination of proactive enforcement and community outreach, the Ventura Area is dedicated to reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities. We encourage all motorists to drive safely, obey traffic laws, and remain courteous on the road. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our Area and the many programs we offer to enhance public safety. Contact our office for more information on any of our services or programs.
