Overview
Welcome to the California Highway Patrol’s Monterey Area office, where our employees fulfill our mission of providing the highest level of safety, service, and security to the people of California. Our officers, dispatchers and professional civilian staff proudly serve one of the most breathtaking regions of California. From the rugged coastline of Big Sur to the scenic highways of Monterey and the Salinas Valley, we are committed to keeping our roads safe while embracing the unique culture and beauty of the Central Coast and the Salinas Valley.
The CHP Monterey Area offers a variety of traffic safety classes and services, including Start Smart for teen drivers, Adult and Teen Distracted Driving courses, Age Well Drive Smart for senior drivers, Pedestrian and Bike Safety, a Child Safety Seat Installation program, and DUI information courses. Additionally, we offer community programs like the Applicant Preparation Program (APP) helping those aspiring to join CHP to be successful at our academy, the Explorer Program for young adults, and the Senior Volunteer Program for those wishing to continue serving our community.
CHP Monterey Area also actively engages with members of our Hispanic and Latino community members through our “El Protector” outreach program. The program places special emphasis on education through dialogue rather than focusing on enforcement measures. The goal of the El Protector Program is to further safeguard the public by spreading the message of traffic safety specifically to the significant portion of our community’s Spanish-speaking-only members.
Traffic safety is a shared responsibility - always stay alert, drive sober, and follow the rules of the road to keep yourself and others safe. For more information on our programs or to schedule a class, contact the CHP Monterey Area office.
