Overview

The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Hollister-Gilroy Area has primary law enforcement jurisdiction over state infrastructure and unincorporated highways within south Santa Clara and San Benito counties, which includes portions of US Highway 101, State Route 25, State Route 85, State Route 129, State Route 152, and State Route 156.  Area jurisdictional boundaries are defined by the State Route 85 transition to US Highway 101 to the north, Pacheco Pass to the east, Hecker Pass to the west, and Pinnacles National Park to the south.  These boundaries encompass the Silicon Valley communities of south San Jose, Coyote, Morgan Hill, San Martin, and Gilroy, along with the communities of Hollister, Tres Pinos, and Paicines in San Benito County.

In addition to state police and general law enforcement services, Hollister-Gilroy Area uniformed and professional staff offer: Department of Motor Vehicles requested vehicle identification number (VIN) inspections; child safety seat installations and inspections; and traffic safety focused educational presentations/events, such as Start Smart for teen drivers, Age Well Drive Smart for senior drivers, and bicycle rodeos for juveniles.

In keeping with the mission of the CHP, Hollister-Gilroy Area personnel strive to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security to the public.  Visit or call the Area office for assistance in scheduling any of the services mentioned above, or with any state police, general law enforcement, or traffic safety related questions.
