The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Visalia Area is proud to serve the residents of Tulare County by providing the highest level of safety, service, and security. As part of CHP Central Division, our officers patrol State Route 99 and State Route 198, as well as over 2900 miles of unincorporated county roadways; serving over 479,000 residents. Along with traffic enforcement, crash documentation, and motorist assistance, CHP Visalia Area investigates all crime on state properties and assists local allied agencies in combating gang and drug crimes. We offer several programs aimed at keeping our communities safe on the roads and highways, including car seat checks through our Child Passenger Safety Program, teen driver safety information through our Start Smart Program, Age Well Drive Smart for our elderly drivers, and Every 15 Minutes presentations for local high schools. We also offer information for safe driving including tips for driving at night or in inclement weather.  For information regarding these programs, contact our office.

For vehicles requiring a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) verification, our office conducts VIN verifications by appointment only. Before calling to make an appointment, ensure you have a referral from the DMV, and the DMV title transfer and registration fees are paid.

In addition to our traffic enforcement and safety programs, we strive to educate the next generation of the CHP. For young adults interested in a career with the CHP and are age 15-20, the CHP Visalia Area Explorer Program is a great place to start. For the seasoned community members age 55 and over interested in volunteering with the CHP, consider applying to CHP Senior Volunteer Program.

If you have a traffic complaint, please contact our office so we can address your concerns. For roadway conditions and information, call 1-800-427-ROAD (427-7623), and for a list of active incidents in our local area, visit https://cad.chp.ca.gov/Traffic.aspx.
