Sergeant Gary Wagers was traveling northbound on State Route 113 near Woodland, and was engaged in an enforcement activity. His vehicle skidded sharply across two lanes, striking a guardrail. Wagers was killed upon impact. A commuter discovered the crash at approximately 6:00 a.m. Sergeant Wagers had been a member of the Patrol for 22 years, and was 54 years of age. He was also a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve.
